Summer! It’s that time of the year where we tolerate or even aspire getting our skin tanned and be exposed to the sun longer than we usually allow ourselves on regular days. Along with having that sun-kissed skin, however, is the risk of getting dry, and worse, leathery skin, especially on the face, as a result of lack of moisture from being subjected to hot temperature for too long. Dry skin is usually not a serious health problem, but it can produce serious complications, such as chronic eczema (red patches) or bleeding from fissures that have become deep enough to disrupt capillaries in the dermis.

Here are some simple tips to help keep your skin supple and healthy looking:

1)  Invest in a humidifier

Sleep with one in your bedroom at night, and keep the door closed so that the moist air doesn't escape. Your skin actually needs more than 30% humidity to stay properly moisturized. Other ways to keep more humidity in your home: add some plants, leave a pot of water on top of the stove when you have something in the oven, or fill a crock pot with water and let it simmer on low with the lid off, all day or all night.

2)  Hydrate every now and then

Yes, water is your skin's best friend. Be sure that you're drinking enough water every day. Tea and coffee, juice and soda don't count. Sipping 8 ounces of water every two hours is not that hard to do, and your healthy skin will thank you for giving it what it craves.

3)  Become familiar with a daily skin routine.

It is important to allow yourself time in the mornings (or evenings) to pamper your skin. If you're in a rush you may not reach all the dry areas on your body when applying lotion. Also, keep hand cream/ body cream in your bag. Make this one of your essential bag items. Depending on where you are in the world, some creams may need to have a good SPF to protect the skin.

4)  Use quality products to help keep moisture in the skin

Only use moisturizing products that are dermatologically proven to be effective in providing you that healthy skin. A good example would be Sebamed Moisturizing Lotion.  It is a lotion suitable for individuals with sensitive skin. It provides the important function of stabilizing the barrier of the skin.  Moreover, it restores your skin's moisture balance which keeps the skin soft and supple. You'd be pleased to know that every Sebamed product is meticulously formulated to a pH balance of exactly 5.5 which is precisely the pH of healthy skin.
